The VHDs will not pass genuine validation. *Note: You may be required to activate the OS as the product key has been deactivated. So it's not as bad as pirating, it's "Vendor Endorsed". If you read Microsoft's own site, they basically say "take a snapshot when you install the VM, then delete it every 89 days". If I really need to see what it's like I'll take the time to fire up a VM. I reach for Browserstack 99% of the time because it's so fast and convenient. I have used the Virtualbox/VM combo, Parallels and have access to Browserstack. I don't see any problem with using them this way unless you were using the VMs as a your computer, which would be kinda silly. For that, there is no substitute for a VM or an actual computer.Īs far as the moral qualms about the 30 day trials, you can feel bad all you want. It's great for seeing what pages look like, but not very good for showing you what the experience is like in those browsers. The big drawback, other than price, is that the experience varies from sluggish to extremely slow. I do WordPress development and even with the VM setup this is a bit of a pain. Its ability to easily set up tunnels for local testing is excellent as well.

Browserstack is great for quick and dirty testing, and is priceless for being able to quickly switch between different OS/browser combos.
